The Nairobi Temple was a significant milestone as it was my first experience in the role of project architect. I had the opportunity to guide a talented team on a highly complex project outside of South Africa.
This temple for the Church of the Latter Days Saints is the first of its kind in the region. The building is clad in yellow granite using a ventilated facade system, with reveals around doors and windows containing decorative patterns and motifs inspired by local flora routed into the stone.

The interior is ornate and opulent. Inspiration was drawn from local fabrics and artwork to inform the design of carved casework elements and hand painted cornices.
The majority of the design and construction drawings were executed remotely at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020. Collaborating with a large team on Revit across multiple disciplines challenged me both as an architect and a leader.
The end result was a great success for all involved, and a critical formative experience in my development as a professional.

The Nairobi Temple construction drawing package was approved by the client and handed over to the local architect overseeing the construction phase. Work began on site midway through 2021 and will take approximately 3 years to complete.
